Pink

Pink
Originally uploaded by umar.s

I'll be wearing this with a black suit on the 4th day of the wedding.

This tie was exactly what I was searching for, but who knew it would be so hard to find?
The search took me to dozens of stores in Toronto and also to several in Buffalo... but none of them knew of a pink paisley tie. Just as we were about to give up hope, I saw a Lord & Taylor's in the mall and thought it was worth a shot to take a look. And there it was.

It's the same shade of pink that her dress is. What makes it all the more amazing is that her dress has green in it, and this tie has bits of that same color too (although it's a bit hard to see from this photo).

Moral of the story: if you're dead set on getting something, keep looking because it's out there.

the invitation

the invitation, originally uploaded by umar.s.

The wedding is coming up in June and I'm leaving in a few weeks so things are starting to get very busy around here.

This is a prototype of the invitation I designed for my family to send out. If you've seen the other design, it was for my fiancee's family.

Unlike in Western culture where the Bride & Groom invite the guests, Pakistani tradition sees the parents hosting one day or another of the wedding. That's why it's not uncommon to see two invitations to the same wedding.

yes, I'm still here.

And have lots to update about, with quite the opposite amount of time to do it in.
I hope to come back to the blogosphere with a new design and (hopefully) more frequent updates.

Did I mention I'm getting married in about two months?
:D

have your input!

Hey folks,
I hope I haven't lost too many readers considering my inconsistent updating habits.

I'm finalizing the outline for my photography workshops next week and would like to "open the floor" to your input before I finish.

So if you're attending (and even if you're not!), let me know what you're looking forward to learning about or even any general suggestions you might have.
It could be anything basic, from "what does X button on my camera do?" or "How can I make the colours stand out in my photos"... to something more complicated like "What are the steps to making an HDR image" or how to use multiple lighting for portrait photography.
These are just some examples and hopefully from whatever input I get, the sessions will be even better and I'll be able to touch on topics you are interested in.

Thanks!

MuslimFest 2007

MuslimFest
is an annual celebration and showcase of Muslim art and entertainment. It'll be held on Saturday, August 11, 2007 at the Living Arts Centre in Mississauga.

This year, I've been invited to teach a few workshops on photography. The details are still being worked out so I can't say much more except that I'll be teaching two workshops in the week leading up to the 11th and one on the day of.

Alhumdullilah, my online stuff (photoblog and flickr) has helped me gain recognition and work and I look forward to teaching those workshops. Of course, I'll need some help preparing, so please help me out by asking some of your own photography-related questions. I may not be able to answer all of them here, but it'll definitely help me prepare for potential questions later.

Oh, and if you've seen that screenshot of my computer I uploaded earlier, you'll know that my computer is really messed up right now. The new video card should be arriving at the York computer store tomorrow, so hopefully I can get this problem solved in the next day or two.
