Eid Cards

Elysium and I were talking about the lack of good Eid cards available to us Canadians. So, with his photography and my design skills, we were thinking of (teaming up with another designer in the States) and coming up with some professional quality Eid cards.

I wanted to get some feedback from you guys about what you think of the idea, how much you'd be willing to pay and maybe even some of your own stories of "Eid card frustrations".

If the response is really good, then we might even be able to increase production and supply stores like Hallmark or Carlton (seeing as to how the never have any cards for Muslim holidays.)

well, we had that problem in uk coupla yrs back, but now u can get amazing cards from Awakening.com, Siratt.com (my favorite) - and smaller shops that produce the nice professional handmade paper/card ones with 3d elements...

if u do go into it, i think stay away from the overly utility-chic look of Awakening and go more towards the crescentcards.co.uk authentic handmade look - they look (and sell) much better

I also have an artist friend that is willing to join in for this, providing paintings/artwork :)

I'm all excited :P

pink pistol - i can't access awakening.com. is that the correct url? I really like the other two though.

elysium - it seems to me like we prob. wont have anything in time for eid al-adha. we'd have to find a printer, come up with the artwork, plus turn-around time etc etc.
next eid al-fitr seems more practical.
what do you think?

noreen - i saw your site, and your stuff looks really good. Glad to have you on the team.

sorry, here it is -
Awakening

yeah u're cutting it pretty fine for this eid, but inshaAllah, next eid gives u plenty of time to set up shop

Salamu aleikum. Great initiative mashallah. The ones from awakening I feel lack soul. Colours derived from the design of the umayyad mosque in daamscus, al-azhar in cairo, the mozaiq of morocco and pink colour of petra in jordan are all places to taek inspiration from. And why not design the eid cards on a theme basis, every year you have one countries specific profile when it comes to art. Sky's the limit, chinese muslim calligraphy or art (haji noor), westafrican, bosnian, the desi cultures as such.. I could go on forever.
Good luck!

I am not stalking you =\. But man, you're in my program! There's only like 3 Muslim people in our year so yeah, you're cool etc. I see you around all the time. I think you even had some group project with my friend Jenna in first year? First day is Sheridan day. I am dreading it :*(. My first ever Sheridan experience apart from those osap scams.

This eid card idea sounds wicked! Elysium you fool, I was gonna leave you a message but someone doesn't allow non-blogger comments and I refuse to make an account!

Shaykhspeara Sha'ira: that's a really good idea. thanks for sharing :)

I saw you yesterday dude but didn't get a chance to say salaam but I will next time I see you insha'Allah. I have editorial and intern at Sheridan, the commute is a whore =\. What else are you taking this semester? Oh someone, I think it was Jon, told me you have wicked 3D designing skills..I'd like to see :D.

i have packaging and internship at sheridan, and info des 2 at york

other than that, i have intro to arabic and islamic civilization

yeah, going to sheridan is always such a drag. i havent been to oakville in over a year... and haven't been in the design labs there since first year.
the only course i had there last year was the drawing one... all the way on the other side of the campus :S
(at 9am on friday!)

luckily, i drive... so it's not all that bad.
