Ohh... that's today?

(the following is an almost accurate translation of the conversation)

Time: 5:30pm

Me: So Mom, have you already gone to vote?
Mom: For...?
Me: Uh... elections?
Mom: Oh, that's today?
Dad: What elections?
Sister: For the government, Dad.
Dad: Oh, I completely forgot about it.
Me: Well, they've only been talking about it for... 8 weeks.

Several minutes later...
Dad: Who did you vote for?
Me: um, I voted. That's all that matters, isn't it?
Dad: Yes, but still...
Me: I voted for ***** <-- censored to keep my political views out of this discussion.
Dad: Ok, well you know we believe that it doesn't matter who you vote for. (He was referring to the Islamic concept of predestination/Qadr)
Me: Ofcourse it matters.
Dad: Oh, um, yes.. I mean every vote counts.

LOL!!!

ah man, that's my family all over. so heated up wt political discussions, war etc, but totally apathetic when it comes to actually going & voting.

Nobody in our house voted in the last general election - that was 4 perfectly good ballots wasted!

My family are pretty cool about that stuff. We all have our ideas about who to vote for and we generally concur; if not, I can usually make them see my point of view :)

At the last elections, ours was one of the most shocking political changes in decades. In an area where the Labour majority was something like 12,000 (this is a lot in what is almost a village), the Liberal Democrats managed to beat them on the war issue with only a few hundred extra votes. The best thing is that the Labour person ousted was actually a Cabinet Member. He's still seething.

Btw, don't worry if you don't understand this post. The nuances of the British voting system is fairly complicated, but a tad more accurate than the American one at least!

Salaam Brother

I've recently visited your blog, and I fond it very nice indeed. Therefore, I'd added it to my links under a section called "Blogs + Friends @ WWW" in the sidebar of my blog.

PS: don't feel strange if you read this comment in other blogs for people you already know

PS: What Elections? [*lol*].

Keep on good work [*smile*]
