The "Glass Wall"

Well, that's what I call it anyways.
It's when you have this idea or concept that you envision so perfectly in your head, but are never able to bring it to fruition. It's like looking at the solution right infront of you, but being unable to reach it. (thus the term, "glass wall")
For example, you're given a class project and right away you know exactly what kind of end result you want to achieve. You can have all the details.. the color, the typeface, the imagery involved, layout, etc etc (I am a design student, therefore the design example, but you get the idea) but you can never get the actual result to look like that.
You can achieve this "Glass Wall" state because of your own laziness, lack of resources, skill, or motivation/inspiration.
It's kinda like those video games where the character goes to the limit of the playing field and no matter how far out you can see, you can't go any further.
make sense?

Then there's these two other states which I've come to discover from personal experience. (with the several all-nighters and double-all-nighters I've pulled)
One is when you're working so tirelessly and concentrating so hard that you break a barrier of "tiredness"... meaning even if you've been up since 8am the previous day, and it's now 6am... and you've gone without (proper) food or rest for almost 22 hours (or more, as has been sometimes the case with me) you can still keep going and going... basically running an car on an empty tank but with no signs of stopping.
Ofcourse, as in the case of school, when you do find yourself in such the above situation, it is usually followed by being totally knocked out. You've just spent 30 hours awake, trying to finish that 15-page essay, you get to class an hour late (b/c you were still not done) and after class, when you get home, you go to sleep. For the next two days.

The other state I've found myself in sometimes is the opposite...
You're trying your hardest to concentrate and get your work done, but you get an uncontrollable desire to sleep. I've ended up falling asleep (with my head tilted back and snoring) on the chair infront of my computer while I'm working on a 30% project which is due the next morning.

Surprisingly though (and somewhat sad), is that I find I produce some of my best work under the last to situations. Remember this? I think I received an A on it, and I had only begun to render it on computer at 2am the night before it was due.

In other news, I really need to clean out my hard drive. I started backing up my computer to an external HD almost 24 hours ago, and it's still only 75% done.
:S

In other, other news, Monday nights have become Idol-night. (no we're not involved in pagan rituals). Two hours of American Idol (audition rounds), followed by an hour of Indian Idol (which is in it's final stages). I never really cared for this whole series until I began watching the Indian version (almost by accident).

Okay, listen. "In other news" - that is MY line. Understand bheta? Mine. Hands off.

In other news, yes, I know what you mean about having this amazing thing in your mind and not being able to bring it forward. But that happens with me in the context of my writing.

thus the point:

glass wall - hmmm as egomatistic as it sounds, for me its usually a brick wall formed by the narrow minds of others limiting the great expanse of my creativity - it really is!

superhuman standard - yep, i work, revise, etc best under pressure. bt u have to get past the initial 'meltdown' feeling like the world's crashing down on u before the adrenaline kicks in to help u bust ur guts

subhuman standard - ah, yes, that was me this semester. couldnt kick myself into gear & had to read everything 10times. really not a fun place to be.

"in other news" is a distinctly british thing, therefore I should claim it as my own :p
